matthew beck born in ireland, completed his studies in architecture at university college dublin before beginning his practice as a designer and light artist : he currently lives and works in hackney in east london and produces all work by hand from ucpcycled materials in his warehouse studio : all waste materials are sourced locally and sustainably

matthew transforms discarded materials into ethereal sculptures, functional furniture and immersive lighting installations that explore the ephemeral relationship between light, space, and the human experience : his work invites viewers to explore the interplay of light and shadow, form and void, in a captivating dance of perception, promoting interation with materiality and connection to one another

influenced by a strong commitment to sustainability, the work celebrates the beauty and potential of discarded materials, while challenging our notions of waste and consumption by transforming ordinary objects into unique works of art, imbuing them with new life, character and functionality : responding to the availability and discovery of new materials, the work represents the spontaneous and resourceful nature of the process

given matthew’s background in architecture, design works are often site-specific, drawing heavily from contextual reference and tailored to the unique characteristics of the space they inhabit : they invite viewers to engage with their physical surroundings in new and unexpected ways, creating a feeling of familiarity and visual harmony
